At Diabetes Training Camp, we understand that cardiovascular fitness
and strength training play a crucial role in improving your health with
diabetes. There are so many benefits- too numerous to count. There is
certainly no single pill to take that will result in all of the
benefits of improving your fitness, including decreasing your
cardiovascular risk, improving your blood pressure and cholesterol,
improving your mood, and decreasing your waist line. We also recognize
that diabetes presents many challenges to the daily fitness routine.
That is why we have built this fitness track. We want to help you
achieve your fitness goals and improve your diabetes management skills
all at the same time. Come spend a week working with Michelle Adams,
and you will take home a lifetime of information to put towards your
diabetes health and fitness.
The fitness track will include:
1:1 consultations with Michelle Adams
Personal Training with Michelle
2 General Fitness Sessions offered per day
A letter from Michelle Adams:
Thanks for checking out Diabetes Training Camp and our specialized fitness track. I want to share a little of my story with you, and then let you know what you can expect from our work together at camp.
Recently, I had another anniversary of my diagnosis- 27 and counting! I have lived with type 1 diabetes most of my life (diagnosis- age 4). Like you, I am consistently seeking better ways to manage my disease, yet a part of me always thought that someone else would be able to give me the “magic” answer- that recipe- for perfect glucose levels.
Despite my continued efforts and good health I was anxious about my recent endo visit. I don’t usually feel anxious. I’ve been doing it my whole life. But, in the waiting room adding up all those years, I could only speculate. This will be the visit with bad news. I should have been thrilled when our visit came to an end. He told me all is well – no complications! Instead I was confused. Why? How have I escaped? Sensing my concern and confusion, the doctor said to me, “maybe it’s luck, maybe it’s good genetics, or maybe it’s all that exercise”.
Once again I had been reminded. There is no magic answer, no magic bullet. But, we hold a huge part of the answer in our own hands. Still, sometimes I forget. Through all of the ups and downs, one factor has always remained consistent- almost fool-proof- in my health and life without complications. Exercise. Whether in team sports, or bike riding with a friend, physical fitness has always made me feel better both physically and mentally. It makes me feel strong- stronger than diabetes.
It can be challenging to fit exercise into our busy lifestyles. Throw blood sugars, insulin doses, and carbohydrate counting in- Yikes! My personal and professional philosophy for staying active through the long haul fits the old saying, “do what you love, love what you do”. There are so many ways of incorporating exercise into daily life, the possibilities are endless. It takes a bit of creativity. No mold fits everyone. Exercise should be customized to fit your needs. That’s what I help my clients do. First, discover the activities that they enjoy. Second, teach them to incorporate it into each and every day.
This is exactly what I do at Diabetes Training Camp. Through group exercise classes, you will learn the basics of a variety of different exercise styles – from yoga and pilates to strength training and cardio. You will also discover what you enjoy, and what you need. You will take away the necessary tools to make it a reality back home. The most rewarding
part of camp is the one-to-one consultation. We look at your daily routine when you are back at home and plan to keep the momentum going. We will help you to do what you love, and love what you do. We can’t send you home with a magic bullet, but we can send you home with a new or improved routine, and the promise of better health and control through improved fitness.
I look forward to the opportunity to work with you- to help you discover what you love, and to love what you do. My goal is to help you customize a plan that fits your needs, and help you formulate a plan to make it a reality following camp. I look forward to meeting you and working with you during camp!
