Absolutely!! This camp is designed to reach out to adults of all ages and all fitness and athletic levels. Our team of coaches and medical staff has been hand-chosen to bring their expertise to your training program, whether you are a weekend warrior, competitive athlete or simply interested in integrating general fitness into your life. We offer general fitness sessions for those inclined to focus on fitness and diabetes management. Finally, the small number of campers allows for much individualized attention throughout the week.
3. Will I be in over my head?
No. We maintain a small camp so that we can reach out to participants at all levels of fitness.
4. What is the location of the camp?
Our next camp is being held at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Camp dates are June 11-16, 2012.
5. Can I sign up to receive updates for future camps and programs?
Please “like” our Facebook page for the most up to date information or check the website, www.diabetestrainingcamp.com for current and future dates.
6. How much does the camp cost?
Individual camp registration fees range between $1700-$2500 depending upon individual sites, facilities, and coaching needs. We recognize that the cost is substantial, but so is the experience. We are committed to providing an experience worth every dollar and more.
7. What does the registration fee cover?
The registration fee covers all aspects of camp including coaching, training sessions, lectures, and workshops. It also includes the cost of lodging, meals and some snacks. Travel and transportation costs are not included.
8. How do I register for the camp?
Proceed to our registration page and you will be guided through all the necessary steps. You can use a credit card on our secure servers to make your camp registration.
9. When do I have to submit payment?
50% of the registration fee is due upon registration. The balance is due in full six weeks before your selected camp. If you prefer to do so, you may submit full payment at the time of your registration. A portion of the registration, $175 is non-refundable. Camp cancellations need to be received by 5/30/12.
10. What form of payment do you take?
We can accept Visa, Master Card and Discover card through our secure registration.
11. What happens after I register?
Once your payment is received, you will be sent an email from our Camp Administrator within 72 hrs. Upon receiving the confirmation email, complete the online Camper Intake Questionnaire by clicking on the link provided. Our Camp Administrator will then schedule an appointment for you to talk with Dr. Matt Corcoran for your Camp Intake for April or early May. Then sit back, relax and wait for your welcome packet to arrive via USPS 4-6 weeks prior to camp with all the necessary camp information, packing lists, etc.
12. Will I need a car?
In most cases it will not be necessary. We provide the transportation necessary for our camp activities. You are welcome to have your own vehicle for any down time during camp.
13. How do I get from the airport to the camp?
You are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the airport. For more detailed travel information, check our registration page for details.
14. Will I have any free time?
An important part of the camp is both rest and the camaraderie of meeting and learning from other campers. With this in mind, there are daily opportunities for free time to relax and enjoy time with the other campers.
15. What about the meals, when do we eat?
In the spirit of the camp, you’ll be served healthy food provided by our host facility – breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks and beverages are included every day. Please let us know if you have any specific dietary requirements.
16. Will there be snacks, rapid acting carbs and drinks?
Yes, we provide snacks, rapid acting carbs and drinks. We encourage you to bring your own if you have favorites.
17. What about diabetes supplies, will there be any meters, strips and insulin?
As always, please travel with and bring your own supplies. We will have emergency supplies on hand, but, as always, carry your own supplies!
18. What should I bring with me?
Training and exercise gear – five days worth, as well as comfortable leisure clothes for down time and relaxation. Be sure to bring your bike (optional), a bike helmet (optional), cycling attire (optional), a swim suit, two swim caps, two goggles, swim towels, running shoes, running attire, general fitness/workout clothes, and a water bottle. Feel free to bring whatever other training tools/gear that you would like to use.
19. Do I need to bring a bike?
If you are a cyclist, or want to learn cycling skills - whether you are new to the bike or a seasoned triathlete - we highly recommend that you bring your own bike if you are interested in cycling.
20. What is the best way to get my bike there?
We recommend you ship your bike as it will be far cheaper than taking on an airline. We suggest shipping across the country via FedEx ground (safer, more reliable and faster than UPS). It generally takes 5-7 days max by FedEx ground to deliver the bike. We recommend packing into a cardboard box from a bike shop and for reinforcement putting the entire cardboard box into another slightly larger cardboard box.
If you are not comfortable packing/unpacking the bike yourself, you can ask a local shop to pack it for you. If you have more specific questions, please contact us directly.
22. What if I do not ride or swim?
No problem. We offer multiple training and fitness sessions per day for you to participate in. However, we have coaches that will help you feel much more comfortable on a bike or in the water in just a day or two. If you are looking for great general fitness activities, or want to learn a new skill, this would be the place to do it!
23. Where do I keep my stuff during the day?
Bicycles will be stored in a secure area arranged by our host facility. You will be responsible for carrying your personal belongings, diabetes supplies, and training gear with you while out on training sessions.
24. Can I make a donation?
Absolutely! We have created a scholarship fund for those who will benefit but might not otherwise be able to attend the camp.
Please contact the Camp Administrator, Lauri, lveneziale@diabetestrainingcamp.com for more details.
