Lizi Sukowatey
Lizi Sukowatey was diagnosed with Type I diabetes over 24 years ago. About 4 years ago, as a birthday gift from her family, she was able to participant in the Diabetes Training Camp. She credits her experience at camp with changing her life with diabetes and is thrilled and honored to be able to help bring this opportunity to others with diabetes. Lizi has just returned to Portland, Oregon after living in North Carolina for the past several years and is a Registered Nurse in the Neuro ICU at one of the local hospitals in Portland. Prior to her nursing career, Lizi was a Corporate Trainer in the group insurance industry, where she developed and taught training programs.
In 2010 Lizi participated in 40 races to both celebrate her turning 40 and to raise awareness for Type I Diabetes. She raised over $3000 for the American Diabetes Association and inspired others, with and without diabetes, to incorporate exercise into a healthy lifestyle. Her athletic adventure was featured in Today’s Charlotte Woman and Diabetes Forecast.
Today, Lizi still enjoys an active lifestyle and bikes, hikes, runs, swims and just plain bounces around town with her insulin pump in tow. |
